Hello everyone-
This week I wanted to quickly go over another area of victimization that the HAVEN Program provides advocacy for. Most people recognize our program as a Domestic Violence Program, but very few know that we also provide advocacy for Victims of Crime.
Who is a Victim of Crime?
The Victims Rights and Support Act 2013 (NSW) defines a victim of a crime as someone who suffers harm as a result of an act committed by another person in the course of a crime. This includes physical and psychological harm, as well as loss or damage to property.
If you are the victim of a crime you should contact law enforcement as soon as possible to report the crime. When filing the report, you should be as detailed as possible when giving descriptions of suspects, vehicles, or any property taken during the crime.
HAVEN has been fortunate enough to receive grant funding to help provide support, advocacy, and financial assistance to any victim of crime. Of course, there are requirements to be eligible for assistance, including a police report, but we want you to know that we are here to help. We currently provide services to all Eastern Shawnee, as well as anyone living within 50 miles of our program office that are a victim in need.
Thank you for reading this week’s FYI.
