A common tool advocates use to ascertain if domestic violence is a part of the relationship is the Power and Control Wheel. The use of this simple wheel can help clarify even complex relationships, often even helping survivors see clearly that they are being controlled.
Emotional abusive behaviors can be just as detrimental as the more easily recognized physical abuse methods of power and control. Non-violent tactics include withholding affection, insults, constant criticism and threats, to name a few. Emotional abuse is serious. Emotional abuse can have lifetime negative effects.
