When someone is experiencing abuse from a partner, threats can become an all-too-common part of daily life—so common, in fact, that they may not seem serious. Survivors may downplay or dismiss these threats, often as a way to cope or stay hopeful. But abusive threats are a warning sign that should never be ignored—they can escalate quickly and dangerously.

StrongHearts Native Helpline is a 24/7, culturally-appropriate, confidential service for American Indian and Alaska Native people impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Launched in 2017 through a partnership between the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, StrongHearts was created in response to the high rates of violence in Native communities. Staffed by Native advocates, it offers support through phone, text, and online chat, providing care rooted in an understanding of Native cultures, sovereignty, and community needs.

June was Pride Month, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning. These terms are used to describe a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
