The 2021 theme: It All Starts with an Ember: Feed the Fire.
Survivors of domestic violence often feel overwhelmed by financial and emotional obstacles when leaving the abusive situation. Haven offers a place of refuge for clients to share their story while receiving the help they need to regroup and begin the next chapter of their lives. Services provided are unique to each person’s situation. Some clients walk out with only the clothes on their back, some have experienced physical trauma, many have children who have witnessed the abuse, most no longer trust their instincts, and all deserve to make their own decisions in an atmosphere of safety.
This week I wanted to quickly go over another area of victimization that the HAVEN Program provides advocacy for. Most people recognize our program as a Domestic Violence Program, but very few know that we also provide advocacy for Victims of Crime.
Children who experience abusive situations are forced to process complex emotions, often without access to the resources they need to do so. Planning for your children’s physical and emotional health is essential for their short-term and long-term wellbeing, no matter how old they are.
