May is Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Awareness Month
- Oklahoma is one of the top states with the highest number of missing and murdered indigenous people.

- Red dresses hung in public places to represent missing and murdered women. “We say the spirts that have passed see bright colors the best, red in particular. So, hanging the red dresses helps lost spirts find their way home to their loved ones.” Jamie Black, artist who began the Red Dress campaign.
- A red handprint, usually painted across the mouth, is a symbol that is used to indicate solidarity with Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.
