Elder Abuse Awareness Month was launched in June 2006 to bring awareness and voice opposition to any form of abuse of the older generation. The Native tradition is to honor our elders. Native elders are respected for their years of experience, wisdom and insight. Unfortunately, the elderly can still be victims of domestic violence.

Elder abuse instances happen mostly in the home where the senior lives.

Is the number of elder adults that experience some form of abuse in their lifetime.

HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
- Know the symptoms of abuse.
Bedsores, bruises, weight loss, poor hygiene and a change in a person’s mood can all be signs of abuse.
- If you suspect something, say something.
Reach out to Haven Program or local law enforcement.
- Help spread the word with social media.
