Haven FYI – Fri March 5, 2021

Hello and Happy Friday!

Safety planning is an important part of a survivors first visit of those seeking services at Haven. Advocates help clients evaluate the danger in their current situation by listening to client’s personal stories and utilizing risk assessment tools to evaluate their situation. Clients and advocates then work together to create a plan to aide in keeping the client safe as they leave the abusive relationship. If you are in an unhealthy relationship or have a friend who needs help, we are happy to provide this assistance.

Unfortunately, many victims of domestic violence are not ready to seek services in person. If this is you, or someone you care about, the myPlan app may help. The myPlan website states, “Designed through a series of multi-year research studies conducted by Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, myPlan is the first interactive safety decision aid. The tool is accessible via a mobile app and website and designed to assist intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors in identifying and navigating their own safe path forward.”

The app cannot replace the personal support given by Haven advocates but may assist in helping someone in an unhealthy relationship take the first step to help and healing.

The app is free and is PIN code protected. Please visit https://www.myplanapp.org/ for more information.

Everyone deserves to be safe. Haven is here to help!
