Haven FYI – Fri Nov 6, 2020

Hello everyone –

November is National Native American Heritage Month. This month is our chance for the nation to be educated on our history, our culture, and who are we as a people.  This month the nation acknowledges that we live on and despite the hardships we have faced, that our history, our culture, and our people are STILL HERE.

A piece of our history is our trauma, past and present. Beginning with forced assimilation and colonization, boarding schools, poverty, and addiction…violence against Native women is real and is continuing today.  “Oklahoma ranks 10th in the U.S. for missing and murdered Indigenous women” and “more than 4 in 5 or 84% of American Indian women have experienced violence in their lifetime”.
