Protecting Our Children: Everyone’s Responsibility
Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving environment—free from harm, fear, and abuse. Unfortunately, many children suffer in silence, and their safety often depends on the willingness of caring adults to speak up. That’s why it’s so important for all people—not just professionals—to be aware of the signs that a child might be in need and to report any suspicions of abuse.
In Oklahoma, the law is clear: everyone is a mandated reporter. This means that all citizens, regardless of profession or relationship to the child, are legally required to report suspected abuse or neglect. You do not need to have proof or be certain that abuse is happening—your role is simply to alert the proper authorities. From there, trained professionals will investigate and determine the best course of action to ensure the child’s safety.
Making a report can be life-changing for a child who is suffering. Often, a single phone call can open the door to protection, healing, and a better future.
