Healing is a deeply personal journey, and every survivor experiences it in their own way. Along the way, survivors are often given many messages and pieces of advice about what healing should look like—especially when it comes to forgiveness. We encourage you to take a moment to read this thoughtful blog post from the MEND Project, which explores healing and helps clarify what healthy forgiveness truly means. This article honors survivors’ lived experiences and offers space for reflection, understanding, and self-defined healing, reminding us that there is no single “right” path forward.
This article is also a valuable read for friends, family members, and community members who support survivors. Building understanding around healing and healthy forgiveness helps us show up with greater empathy and care. An informed community is a healthier community, and when we take the time to learn, we create safer, more supportive spaces for survivors to heal on their own terms.
