Mental Health Awareness Month: Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the importance of emotional well-being and the need for greater support and understanding. For survivors of domestic violence, the journey to healing involves not only physical recovery but also addressing the profound emotional scars that often linger long after the abuse ends. The trauma inflicted by domestic violence can lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and a sense of isolation. Acknowledging and validating these struggles is essential in creating an environment where survivors can seek help and begin to heal.
By raising awareness about mental health, we can provide survivors with the understanding and resources they need to rebuild their lives. It’s crucial to recognize that healing is a process and that mental health support — from therapy to community groups — plays a pivotal role in helping survivors regain their strength and confidence.
HAVEN offers a safe space for survivors to share their stories, we provide non- judgmental listening, facilitate support groups for survivors and their children and connect survivors to counselors with experience in trauma.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, and every other month of the year, we want to remind everyone that it’s okay to seek help, no matter where you are in your journey.
You are not alone, and your healing is worth the support.
