Are you familiar with StrongHearts Native Helpline? We want to make sure our community knows about this incredible resource that is available 24/7 to Native people experiencing domestic, dating, or sexual violence—and to those supporting someone who is.
The idea began back in 2012, when the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center and the National Domestic Violence Hotline recognized the need for a helpline created specifically with Native survivors in mind. After years of planning and input from Tribal leaders, Native advocates, and domestic violence experts, the StrongHearts Native Helpline launched on March 6, 2017.
What started as a collaborative effort has grown into a 24/7 national resource providing culturally centered support to Native survivors and their families. In 2021, StrongHearts became an independent Native nonprofit organization
One of the most powerful takeaways from StrongHearts’ first decade is that nearly 90% of callers initially aren’t looking for emergency services—they simply need someone to listen, believe them, and help them feel less alone.
As Lori Jump, director of the helpline, explains, “People need to be heard and validated—and know they’re not crazy.”
StrongHearts provides culturally centered, confidential support by phone, text, and online chat, with advocates who understand the unique experiences and barriers Native survivors may face.

While the HAVEN Program is always here to listen, support, and help, we understand that there may be times when reaching out to us feels difficult or barriers make it challenging to connect. The StrongHearts Native Helpline is another trusted resource available to Native survivors of domestic violence and their loved ones. Whether you need someone to listen, information, or help exploring your options, you don’t have to face it alone. And remember, HAVEN is always here when you’re ready.
