Hello everyone –
As kiddos head back to school, it’s important to be prepared. We buy the school supplies and new sneakers, but are we prepared for online or cyberbullying? I’d love to say that we always know what’s happening in our kids’ lives but often we don’t know everything. Watch this quick video as a reminder and then learn about the signs and steps to take.
Spotting the Signs
- Behavior changes: Sudden anxiety, sadness, or pulling away from favorite activities.
- School avoidance: Acting sick or refusing to go to school or log into class.
-
Phone habits: Hiding screens, crying after looking at texts, or suddenly quitting social media use.
Action Steps for Parents and Students
- Save proof: Take screenshots of mean messages, web pages, or posts before blocking the sender.
- Block and report: Use built-in tools to block the user and report the behavior to the app or website.
- Do not reply: Engaging with the bully often makes the harassment worse.
-
Involve the school: Share saved proof with school administrators or counselors to address peer conflicts.
